In the Morning

Your school's trip will depart from your school (or other designated departure point) between 5:30 am and 7:30 am. Exact departure and return times are posted on our website schedule page 5-7 days before each trip. The deluxe motorcoach usually arrives approximately 15-30 minutes before departure time to allow ample time for checking on participants. All motorcoaches are air conditioned, restroom and video equipped, and have deluxe reclining seats and footrests.

A chaperone will be present with a check on list of all participants and to answer any questions that parents may have. During the trip, chaperones distribute lift tickets with name tags to the group.

Arrival at the Ski Resort

A Colorado Ski Academy staff member is present all day at each resort. Our staff contacts the ski resort a prior to our arrival so all the instructors are ready and waiting for the students.

The resort has pre-grouped all elementary students, plus any middle or high school students in the lesson programs, by age and ability level. Each student is assigned a group number, which is printed on their name tag and attached to their lift ticket. When we arrive, the instructors hold up signs with the group numbers, so it is very easy for each student to find their group.

When each instructor has all of their group, they proceed to the ski and snowboard school area. Students who have signed up for rental equipment will be assisted by their instructor in finding their equipment, which has been pre-set and marked with their names. Within 20-30 minutes of our arrival, most students will be out on the mountain beginning their classes.

Instructors stay with all elementary students, and any older students that are in a full-day lesson program, for the entire day, including lunch. Classes may take breaks during the day, depending on weather and other factors. Resort instructors at their discretion will move students to a different ability group during their day.

At the end of the class, instructors assist students in returning rental equipment. Each student is given a report card indicating what skills they have mastered and what skills they are working on. The instructors accompany the students back to the bus area and ensure that each student gets on the correct bus.

Middle and High School Students

Middle and High School students choose from several different program options: either a full day, half day, or no lesson program. Those in a full day lesson are placed with an instructor specific to their ability level with other students closest to their same age. Those that are experienced and have their parents consent may opt for either a half day lesson or no lesson. Those in the half day lesson are released after lunch.

Those middle and high school students that are not in a lesson program are free to go ski and snowboard when we arrive at the resort. They are given written as well as verbal instructions on where to pick up rental equipment, where and when they need to return to the bus, and how to contact our on-site staff in case of a problem or emergency.

Parents who give permission for students to ski or snowboard without an instructor also agree to pick their child up from the ski resort if they do not return to the bus at the scheduled departure time. We encourage parents to take into consideration their individual child's experience and maturity level when making this decision. First-time and beginning level skiers or snowboarders should always be placed in a lesson program, to ensure their safety and to help them master the appropriate skills. In no case will we allow elementary students, no matter how high their ability level, to ski or snowboard without an instructor.

Chaperones and Participating Adults

Chaperones and other adults have a variety of packages to choose from. These range from transportation only to ski or snowboard lesson programs. Please see our rates for a description of the different programs. Adults who choose a lesson program will choose their appropriate ability group after arrival at the resort. Adult ski and snowboard classes are separate from those for students, and adults will NOT be placed in the same classes as the students.

Adults should also be aware that it is the policy at all of the resorts that parents and chaperones are not allowed inside the children's ski and snowboard school. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS POLICY IS TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF ALL STUDENTS! Rest assured that all students are well-cared for and supervised by the resort instructors. While it may be possible to observe students from a distance, adults are also not allowed to ski with students in classes. Again, this is for the safety of the students, as well as to not distract their attention from their instructor.
